BATISTE DRY SHAMPOO REVIEW

I'll be the first to admit I don't wash my hair everyday so when I got the opportunity to try Batiste products I was pretty excited.

I've always known of Batiste for their dry shampoo range, however I have discovered that they also sell hair sprays, texturising sprays and plumping powder.

First things first, I think the packaging is so gorgeous, I particularly like the colours and patterns on the Moroccan themed dry shampoo.

I was lucky enough to be sent a style spray and a dry shampoo to try.

I used a dry shampoo about 10 years ago and didn't rate it at the time, it made my hair white and full of a greasy residue.

My hair is long and I don't wash it every day, I wash it 3 times a week max as I don't have the time and it dries out if I wash it too much.

The first thing I tried was the dry shampoo, I'll be completely honest here. The first time I tried this I did end up it grey hair and yes that did put me off a little. I built up the courage to try this again a couple of weeks after. My hair as at a point then that if I the spray didn't work it would need a wash anyway and I was in a position to do that there and then. I thought back to my previous experience and thought i'd take a different approach to using this product so I held the bottle at arms length, tipped my head over and really focused on the roots and a little on the lengths of my hair, and the results? Much better! I had a much better experience this time and managed to retain my natural brunette locks, whilst also managing to make my hair feel a little cleaner. I managed to leave the house that day without washing my hair, this product isn't something I am going to use on a daily basis, however as a mid week pep or even when my hair looks a little worse for ware and I just don't have the time.

I think this product will last me a long time meaning that it's fairly good value for money, I also do really love the scent, however there are so many other to choose from I feel I do need to pick another one up to try, especially tropical with coconut or cherry!

This spray has a very similar consistency to the dry shampoo.

My hair doesn't really lack in volume too much, however sometimes a little lift at the roots is a good thing. I was excited to use this product and yes it does work, its got a fairly dry texture meaning that the hair goes a little stiffer and therefore creating volume.

For me, I had similar results using the dry shampoo in the same way, so I think I only really need the one bottle of product as for me it does it all.

This smells really pleasant, however again the scent of the dry shampoo was really lovely also, so for me the unique selling point of this (volume) isn't really there because I achieve that with the dry shampoo. That's not to say I didn't like this product, it's just that they are very similar so I feel I only need one or the other.

Have you tried these products? Please share your thoughts below! I would really love recommendations on what scent to pick up next.

Korres Basil Lemon body collection | Review

If your looking for a range of truly refreshing body care products then I have to say these are them. For stockists please click on the below headings for the link.

Korres Basil Lemon Body Scrub £12 for 150ml

I use this product first in my shower. It's a deep cleansing body scrub, which is ideal for sore muscles and to give a really clean and refreshed feeling after exercise or exertion. This helped to make me feel invigorated and energized after a work out.

This product combines ground Bamboo with Jojoba beads which helps to remove dead skin cells. Sodium, Magnesium, Zinc and Manganese assist in restoring energy to skin cells and hydrating the skin.

I use this product after the scrub to get myself really clean, it gives a really super clean feel whilst not drying my skin out. It made my underarms feel deodorized after an intense workout. Wheat proteins help to form a protective film on the skin, maintaining its natural moisture level. Active Aloe, rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, Zinc and antioxidant enzymes, enhances the immune system of the skin. Furthermore, due to its ability to stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis, Active Aloe helps reduce the visible signs of ageing.

This Moisturising body milk is fantastic for adding a little more moisture to your skin. It smells just as good as as the scrub and shower gel. The scent is a little more diluted and smells somewhat lighter.

Key Ingredients:
The combination of Almond oil, active Aloe, provitamin B5 and Shea butter which provides long-lasting hydration whilst making skin supplen. Almond, especially the sweet variety, is known for its inflammatory and immune-boosting effects. Almond oil, with its soothing properties, when applied regularly, nourishes extra dry skin. It also works as an effective skin cleanser without causing any irritations to the skin.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis

- Dermatologically Tested
- Paraben Free
- Mineral Oil Free
- Silicone Free
- Propylene Glycol Free
- Ethanolamine Free
- Enriched with Active Plant Extracts

I have loved using these products and feel they will be especially good when the weather gets warmer too. The scent is really gorgeous and lemony with a hint of basil.

These are a must to give a try, whats more you can purchase the showergel and body milk in miniature sizes for £3 (40ml) to try.

Purchase the shower gel here!

Rimmel London Eye Makeup Review

I bought these Rimmel London products in boots a few weeks ago, there was a 2 for £10 offer.

Rimmel Scandaleyes waterproof gel liner £6.99

This is well pigmented and it lasts all day. It was a really bold black and applied correctly it looked great. I didn't find it that easy to apply unfortunately. The first application was plain sailing and then the next time I found it impossible to get the right amount of product on the brush. This is the 1st pot of eyeliner I have purchased so at this moment I don't have another brand to compare it to, however I have used pen eyeliners which I found easier to control line thickness, etc. One thing that I will say is that pen eyeliners are very portable, with this it's not practical to have it loose in your bag so it would seem you need to carry it in it's box.

Rimmel London eyeshadow palette £6.99

I liked the contrast of colours in this palette and I thought it would be ideal to create a smoky effect. Although I do like this palette the colours aren't as they seem, they are quite shimmery and look very different on my skin to in the pan.

All in all, these were bargain beauty buys however the old saying about getting what you paid for does ring true here as I can say that whilst I liked these I know there are better products out there and so the search continues.

Korres Showergels and Body Milks - Review

I was delighted to return home from my holiday to a wonderful parcel from Korres, a Greek cosmetics company with roots in Athens first Homeopathic Pharmacy.

The company prides itself on their use of herbs and science in their natural yet effective products. They are also an ethical and 'green' company, for more information and for their story please visit here.

Upon approaching Korres I had tried just one of their products, the Mint Tea Shower gel which smells sensational and can be purchased on feelunique.com. I noticed that Korres have such a diverse range of products aside from shower gels and I just knew I had to try them.

I'd like to thank Angela for her assistance throughout, she has been so helpful and has sent me review items that are so relevant to my needs and are items that I would use day to day.

I was sent Showergels, Body Milks, Facial creams and treatments, and also lip products to try.

For this review I will focus on the Shower gels and Body Milks that I have been sent to review.

The next review will relate to the lip products, and finally I will focus on the skincare items as I would like a little longer to get a feel for these so I can share as much detail with you as possible.

Waterlily Shower gel (£8 for 250ml) and Waterlily body milk (£10 for 200ml)

I wasn't sure what I would think of this as I have never smelled waterlily so had no idea what scent to expect. I wasn't disappointed, It's a fresh scent yet still fairly light. The shower gel wasn't harsh and made me feel clean without stripping my skin.

Both of the shower gels that I tried contain wheat proteins which are said to form a protective film on the skin, helping to maintain a regular hydration level.

The body milk was a great addition to my after shower routine. It's been a long while since I moisturised post shower as I am usually in a rush and don't have the time to wait for it to soak in. I was really surprised as it took next to no time to soak into my skin so I will definitely keep this routine up.

Fig Shower gel (£8 for 250ml) and Waterlily body milk (£10 for 200ml)
This shower gel and body milk combination was made for me, I love big, bold scents and these products offered exactly that. The shower gel has a super fresh scent and left me feeling awakened and invigorated. The scent was quickly embedded into my skin and left it smelling gorgeous for ages.

Again the body milk is luscious and is something that I will be making a permanent fixture in my bathroom buys!

The body milks also contain some great ingredients such as Active Aloe, B5 and Shea Butter which helps to provide long lasting hydration whilst also enhancing the skins suppleness.

I have absolutely loved trying these products and it doesn't stop there as Korres have so many more sensational sounding scents to try such as; Basil Lemon, Guava, Bergamot Pear and Mango to name a few.

These products can be purchased here and here, I recommend checking out the product range and trying some for yourself. Maybe you have already tried some Korres products, leave me a comment below and let me know what you've tried and your opinions, I'd love to hear from you.

Please check back soon for my next Korres products review!

Salcura DermaSun and BioSkin - Review

In preparation for my holiday I was kindly send some products to review from the Salcura DermaSun and BioSkin range. Firstly, I'd like to say a big thank you to Chloe for your help pairing products with my skin type and situation.

I didn't intend to get burnt on my holiday  (who does?) and to be perfectly honest I was hoping not to suffer any skin irritation, but alas, it seems that these issues are part and parcel with hot countries.

We went to Lanzarote and the temperature was in the high twenties, it was very humid so it often felt hotter.

Despite covering myself liberally with factor 50 several times a day I did manage to get burnt, mainly whilst on excursions. My legs and feet burnt whilst floating in a rubber ring and also quad biking, my arms got their turn whist kayaking and snorkeling.

My skin was irritated too, itchy either from the UV exposure or from the SPF in the sunscreen. In addition the mosquitoes made a meal of me so I am covered in hard lumps.

So, did these products help me? The answer to this is YES, the 2 sprays were fairly similar and they both worked at soothing my burns and irritations.

The spray eliminates the need to rub in which was really convenient and easy to apply. The spray for irritation also aided with my insect bites and helped to calm the affected areas down.

The BioSkin Zeoderm was really a savior and stopped my burned skin from peeling, it kept me moisturised without feeling greasy and absorbed into my skin perfectly well.

As these were taken on holiday I decanted them into smaller bottles (50ml). The sprays are £16.99 for 100ml and can be purchased here.

As for  the BioSkin Zeoderm cream, this can be purchased here and is available in 2 sizes, £9.99 for 50ml which is perfect for travel and £19.99 for 150ml.

These items were absolute lifesavers whilst on holiday, I just wish I had brought the full size sprays as I got through all of what I brought with me and I will definitely be bringing these along with me the next time I go somewhere hot!

I'm Back!

Hi All,

I am now back from my holiday so I have quite a bit of catching up to do, but first I will share with you a holiday update.

We spent 7 days in Lanzarote and I have to say it was great, I couldn't of asked for better weather - I nearly tanned..!

There was lots of excursions and shopping and as a bonus it was relatively cheap. We did pay for excursions and there's some things we saved on and others that were more costly and could have been done cheaper with a little more thought (small things). I will take this away and not make the same mistakes again.

Where we saved

Flights, Accommodation and transfers - We got a great initial deal, flights, villa and transfers were booked in bulk as we went with friends so there was 4 of us to share the villa and transfer costs which was a significant saving. If you were to go for a villa as a single couple it would cost quite a bit more and it worked out similar in price to a nice hotel. - For us the villa was a must, it's quiet and much more intimate without the worry of lots of people, kids running around and fighting over sun loungers! It's great traveling with friends also as it was great company and an all round laugh.

Food - In general the food was so cheap in all of the restaurants and cafe's, it was also really affordable in the supermarkets and some evenings it was nice to just stay in and have a BBQ as a group, I estimate this could have been done for less than €5 per head which is pretty good! I can definitely understand why people move to the Canary Islands and Spain.

Alcohol - Is really cheap in the shops but quite a bit more expensive in the restaurants and bars (not as expensive as the UK though), we had lunch the other day for €15 and then spent the same on a drink each.

Makeup - There were lots of fragrance and makeup shops offering great discounts (on reflection these were better than the airport discounts), I bought a lovely pink Guerlain blusher compact for €31.95 (approx. £23.50 currently), this blusher, this brand in fact isn't available where I live. I would therefore need to buy this online, and it retails at £33.50 (€45.50 at current) - so in all a great little bargain.

Where we spent

Excursions - We went Kayaking and snorkeling, this was approx. a 4 hour excursion and cost €65 each, The other excursion we did was quad biking and this worked out at €90 each, both of these were great fun and totally worth it!

Toiletries - Make sure you take what you need as I forgot a couple of items and needed to purchase extras. I forgot Vaseline for my lips, I cannot go to sleep without this (this and hand cream!). We brought a bit of sun cream but we ran out and had to get some more, likewise with body wash and deodorant.

Supplies at the airport - A tiny travel size bottle of deodorant for men in the airport WHSmith costs £2.50 which is absolutely ridiculous, but we needed so we paid!

My other half got a cushion for the plane, but if we'd planned ahead we could of got a better deal.

Taking all the above into account there are small lessons to be learned, because when you really need something you are willing to pay through the nose, so the trick is to be prepared!

I arrived home and I was so excited to see all the review items that I have received through the post.

Keep an eye out as I have a few reviews on their way!

Sweet Freedom - Choc Shot Coconut review

Recently I was sent the Sweet Freedom Choc shot in Coconut to try.

These are predominantly advertised as a chocolate fluid to make hot chocolate with, however turn over the bottle and there are some really great suggestions for other uses.

What I will say about this product is that it's not ridiculously chocolatey, but having learned afterwards that it contains only 14 calories per teaspoon I have to say it's a pretty delicious substitute.

I chose coconut because I really love bounties and coconut macaroons and I just think chocolate and coconut is a damn good combination. But that's just me, there is a plain chocolate flavour and a chocolate and orange spice which has a nice ring to it!

My boyfriend has also helped himself to this, he has mainly been eating this neat from the bottle. I have been concocting more exciting uses for it however.

Image from http://www.sweetfreedom.co.uk/
This chocolate liquid is so versatile, yes it does make hot chocolate but it also makes great porridge too.

Why stop at porridge, this works great on pancakes, you can even add it to your pancake batter for a colourful alternative to pale and pasty pancakes.

Want to make fruit a little more interesting for the kids, or maybe your other half?

Got some plain yogurt that needs jazzing up? This stuff is lovely on plain yogurt.

I have added desiccated coconut to most of these things before and its really gritty, the great thing about the choc shot is its lovely silky texture which makes it a really versatile store cupboard ingredient.

There are a whole host of great uses for this product if you put your mind to it, if you're not adventurous Choc shot have done the work for you and have put together a comprehensive recipe list which can be found here.

Don't feel you need to take my word for it, go and try it for yourself. These are sold in all the major supermarkets, a list can be found here.

Already tried this product? I'd love to hear your thoughts, please comment below.

AnnMarie Skin Care - Review

I got in touch with a lovely lady called Lisa from AnnMarie Skincare and she very kindly let me try their products.

When the envelope arrived the first thing I noticed was the sensational natural scent that was coming from the it - just beautiful!

Here's what the kit I received contains, this retails at $20 and can be purchased here

Repair Serum
A lovely nourishing oil that didn't leave my skin too greasy and luckily didn't cause any blemishes. It just left my skin feeling cared for.

Herbal Facial Oil for normal and combination skin
This oil was nice and light which is important to avoid outbreaks. It absorbed into my skin very well and felt good throughout the day.

Neroli Toning Mist
This is a really refreshing mist. It can be used to make you feel cool and refreshed, it can also be used at the end of your skincare routine and will help boost the benefit of your skin serum helping it soak deeper into your skin. This product also smells wonderful.

Coconut Body Oil
I love coconut, so of course this product really appeals to me. When I first received it the oil was solid and I couldn't get it out of the bottle (must have been cold in the porch) and after an hour in my warm kitchen this was a nice thick oil that was easy to apply and felt beautiful on my skin!

Aloe Herb Cleanser
This was lovely and cooling on my skin, a little went a long way.  It did a great job of removing impurities.  The product smelt very pleasant,  almost citrus-y but very subtle.

Ayurvedic Facial Scrub
This comes in powder form, to which you add some cleanser or alternatively water. It smells similar to henna and again this made my skin feel nourished, however a slight scent did remain on my skin for some time.

Purifying Mud Mask
This mask also comes in powder form, you add water. It's a great idea, especially when your travelling and there are restrictions on liquids and pastes.

Dead Sea Facial Scrub
This is a very fine scrub which you massage into your skin in a circular motion. After applying a thin layer you leave this on for 15-30 minutes for it to get to work. This made my skin feel truly polished and left a lovely natural glow. The website offers the following useful advice 'exfoliating is most effective in the mornings, as the most cell turnover happens while sleeping.'

Picture from http://www.annmariegianni.com
What I really loved about these products is that they are completely natural, containing no chemicals, parabens or preservatives like a lot of cosmetics on the market. They smell beautiful and as nature intended they are not harsh or synthetic scents.

A really lovely and extensive product range with something for all skin types, I would definitely recommend these wonderful natural products. This is such a great little kit and would be perfect to take on holiday or for travelling.

A sample kit can be purchased here http://www.annmariegianni.com/samplekit/

Oatly - Review

A little while back I wrote to the Swedish company 'Oatly' - see blog post here.
They specialise in dairy products which are made primarily from oats! They do a really exciting range of products as opposed to just milk which I think sets them apart from other dairy alternative companies. Unfortunately as I live on an Island we have limited supermarkets in which to shop in and I can only get my hands on their plain milk, organic milk and best of all chocolate milk. I would have loved to be able to try other products that they offer such as their breakfast drinks, energy drinks, oatgurts and ice creams! For more information on this wonderful brand and their products check out their website.

Firstly the taste of this was very pleasant, slight oaty as you would expect and as such I'd say this product would be perfect for use with porridge, or cereals. I preferred the chocolate flavour of course and I couldn't get enough of this. Out of the 5 bottles we have had to date 4 have been chocolate flavoured. I have found this to be a very versatile product, I have used it in tea and coffee and whilst it doesn't sit as well as some other milk alternatives the flavour is still great.

A couple of quick reviews

Here's a couple more of the reviews from my to do list, these are relatively short so I have grouped them together. I will start with the shortest.

Escada born in paradise perfume - this was just a small perfume scented wipe sample, the smell is pleasant and like most of the escada perfumes I have tried it is quite a sweet smell. This one is fruity, perhaps peachy in smell. The scent lasted well throughout the day and I have to say it smelt best after an hour or so when it had sunk into my skin a little and wasn't so sweet and strong.

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion - £5.45 for 200ml - My initial impressions of this was that it's a only a 10ml sample and will be impossible to determine whether it works for me or not in one application. So the little sample managed to cover my arms, legs and décolletage. It was strangely thick and hydrating but not greasy and it felt very nourishing. The packet does however

Pure Potions Review

So a couple of weeks of gone by and I have had a chance to test drive the products that the lovely people at Pure Potions kindly gave me to test and review.

This is a perfect, deep moisturising hand cream. I use it in addition to my usual hand cream as my usual hand cream is lighter and this is slightly heavy and more oily- it gives a nice protective barrier. However I tend to use this either first thing or last thing at night to really feel the benefit. I tend to use the lighter cream in the day time to save covering my key board in it and making all the doorknobs greasy (I do apply A LOT of hand cream throughout the average day.)

Pure Potions have arrived!

Recently I wrote to Pure Potions to ask if I could try some of their products to include on my blog as a review feature and they very kindly agreed. I heard back from a really helpful person, thanks Jess for your positive response and thank you to Pure Potions on the whole for investing in me and providing me with some products from the dry skin range to try and review.

These products are hand made using 100% natural ingredients (no harmful chemicals), they are suitable for people of all ages and can be used almost anywhere on your body, they are suitable for those with eczema, dermatitis and dry sensitive skin. Interestingly these products are also suitable for use on pets to combat dry patches, etc. For more information about Pure Potions products see here

The products that I have kindly been given to try are:

This is described as an intensive natural hand cream for daily nourishment and maintenance of hands. Hands come into contact with a number of allergens and irritants every day, which can leave them dry, sore and cracked. Once the barrier is broken down on the skin of the hands further irritants can get in easily and the problem worsens. To combat this, it is vital to find a product that gently protects the hands whilst feeding nutrients into the skin for healthy regeneration.

Elizabeths Daughter - Review

This is one of the 1st samples that I asked for last year when I started this product trial project.

Liz very kindly sent me some beautifully wrapped samples to try and I have recently had chance to try the products and I am sorry I didn't try them sooner.

The products that I was given sachets of to try were 'The Daily Moisturiser' and 'The Purifying Mask'

The sachets are 7ml, and for the moisturiser (I got X3) I was able to make this last for 9 days (using day and night), and I feel this is sufficient time to get a feel for the product.

This moisturiser contains SPF 15 and at this time of year that is most important to combat premature ageing. In some cases this can be a negative as I have in the past had skin allergies when using face creams containing sun factor.

Another great thing about this cream is the assurance that it contains natural ingredients such as Rice Bran and Sesame Seed Oils (For vitamin E), and pumpkin and Shea butter.

I have had absolutely no issues with this moisturiser. It's a thick and luxurious cream, yet it doesn't leave a heavy film on my skin nor has it caused any breakouts or blemishes. It has a very subtle, natural and pleasant smell and it has made my face skin feel super hydrated, soft and protected. At £17.50 for 100ml this is cheaper that what I currently use, so when I run out of my current moisturiser I will definitely consider changing over to this

This has been described as a deep cleansing mask to help purify skin and eliminate toxins. It contains Lime Seed Oil (Omegas 3, 6 and 9) which helps to support tissue regeneration, condition the skin and is particularly effective on skin which is inflamed. The product also contains Amazonian White Clay which is said to be very rich in mineral salts that help to eliminate toxins; plant extracts from Great Burdock and Erysimum which have sebo-regulating and antiseptic properties to help rebalance skin. - info taken from their website.

I tried this today,  the 7ml sachet was plenty to cover my face. It is quick and easy to use and didnt cause any irritation. When I washed the mask off I noticed that my felt very soft and nourished

These products are great, and importantly none of them contain parabens, sulphates or petrochemicals. They are made up of 95% (minimum) natural ingredients

In addition they do not test on animals which is also great to hear! for full details on the Elizabeth's Daughters promise see here
